Tyler and I got away for a long weekend. We left on Thursday and went over to the coast, stopping at Tybee Island Beach. It was pretty warm, just really windy. We walked on the beach, out on the pier, and sat until the sun set.

We left and drove to Jacksonville, FL to spend the night. We got up the next morning and headed farther down the coast, stopping at one northern FL beach. By today it was in the low 40s in the morning. We jumped out, took a few pictures, and hopped back in the car. We stopped in St. Augustine after breakfast and it had warmed up a little. Still really windy. That was the theme of our trip- high winds. We drove through St. Augustine and stopped at the lighthouse.

We then headed down to Port Canaveral to get on our cruise ship. We cruised on The Monarch of the Seas with Royal Carribean. It was really nice. The crew was all very friendly and the food was great! A cruise wasn’t our first choice for a vacation, but for the price and time we had, it couldn’t be beat. On our first night, about 1 hr and 45 min into the cruise, they announced we were turning around and heading back to port. There had been a medical emergency. We knew it would put us behind, but it must have been serious for them to go back. They did say the next day that the patient was in stable condition. Yikes! Anyway, we made it to Nassau, Bahamas 3 hours later than planned. We still had about 4 hours until sunset. We took a ferry over to Paradise Island (where Atlantis is.) We found a public beach, walked a ways, and layed out for a couple hours. Again, it was nice but would have been nicer without the 20 mph winds. We took the ferry back and stopped at the straw markets right as they were closing. I did some speed shopping and we headed back to the ship.

The next morning we woke up, hit the decks early, and noticed that the wind had stopped! It was early and already so warm. We took a tender over to Coco Cay, Bahamas. It is the cruise ships private island, so just beach, food, and water activities. Perfect! It was low 80s and great today! We walked down the beach, found some of the last groups of chairs, and layed out for a while. The water was really clear and shallow. We started walking out in it. You could walk forever and not get in past your knees. Then we started heading down the beach farther, in the water. We ended up swimming a little and then walking to the end of the island. It was so nice. You would have never known there were a possible 2500 people on the island. We didn’t see too many until we headed back for the free beach barbeque. After lunch, we took the interior nature trail back to the end of the island. We crossed over to the beach and sat a while and then made our way back.

It wouldn’t be a vacation without a sunset picture. We had a great time! Coco Cay was our favorite part. We would have been fine staying there both days. We’re glad we got to go!
